Qman’s – 2010 Fab 4
Tickerville, Tickerville | December 30th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
I remember stumbling upon StockTwits this year after fumbling my way around Twitter land for a few months and thinking to myself, wow, these guys get it. They’ve actually figured out a way to bring us altogether. My dilemma of course was just how to participate when my day was filled with all the tasks of a fund manager, separate account advisor and web dabbler. To my wife’s chagrin, I began Stock Tweeting on Saturday’s and wouldn’t ya know, it stuck. That role has now been filled by fabulous content from @StevenPlace, whom my wife praises for stepping up to the plate, but my content can be heard and seen at least three times a week, which has been a ton of fun and something I very much look forward to building upon in the coming year.Unfortunately, I just don’t get as much time as I would like during the day to participate in the stream, however all of you know I am there in spirit and I can’t thank you enough for embracing me when I do have the time, regardless of the hour or wine glass I happen to be on.
I have never participated in a Follow Friday, and in all honesty for the longest time I had no idea what #FF even meant until I broke down and humbly asked someone. While I have never participated, I have compiled my own favorites and am watching many of you. In addition to those of you who already know you are good, my goal is not to promote those of you who have already been promoted but to give credit to those who may not be as well known, but will be very soon if I have anything to say about it.
@StockTwits has done a fantastic job plucking out the great traders, educators and communicators, however a few continue to grind it out day in and day out, not looking for anything more than a place to communicate their thoughts and to bat around ideas with others.
I will build on this list, but in getting started here’s to my top 4, very own #2010MustFollow. Enjoy and Happy New Year.
1.) @SnoopyJC – Don’t let the name or the funny icon fool you. Snoopy is one of the most humble, respectful and honest traders I have seen out there. His candor is above reproach and he has supported my efforts from day one. He’s got great ideas, isn’t afraid to admit when he piggybacks others, and has patience that I can only admire. If you’re looking to learn, @SnoopyJC is the best place to start.
2.) @ZorTrades – There is something special about the old school broker. You know the one, the guy who doesn’t just make his living off his picks, but has to hustle up the clients, and deal with all the garbage too. It didn’t take the higher-ups long to find @ZorTrades on the stream and I was proud to have caught onto his great eye at a very early time when he would interact with me during the StockTwits brunch hour. For the life of me, I could have sworn that he was a laid-back retired hedge fund manager just dabbling in the mo mo names because he could. Not only did it floor me to meet a fine Italian Bronx boy at the StockTwits gathering, but it was an honor to learn that my assumption was quite a ways off. I am proud to now call @ZorTrades a friend and look forward to many years sharing ideas with this incredible trading champ. You have to understand that as a broker, with a compliance eye above him his hands are a bit tied at times however if you ever really want to get into his head and enjoy all of his trades, heck open an account with him. I’m considering doing just that.
3.) @Pipmaestro – I think it’s the picture combined with the hours this rock star keeps that makes his posts so intriguing. Long before it was even a part of the @StockTwits stream, @Pipmaestro was posting his currency trades in full disclosure, good bad and indifferent. I am only just now getting to know this night owl but I must say as I review his stream as I do every week, I am always learning something new. Want to venture out into currency land? Pip’s your man.
4.) @TraderFlorida – I don’t think any will argue that this cat may be one of the strongest traders in the bunch. You will find no emotion in the posts, no macro views, no overlaying thesis just pure and simple chart work from a full time trader living and breathing the tape. Nothing else to say about that for now.
Well, that’s it, short and sweet. Is this everyone I follow, read, study, learn from, or laugh with on StockTwits? No sir, but it’s my fab four and a great place for you to start if you haven’t found these gems already.
Cheers!
